MANILA, Philippines — Vice presidential candidate and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio will not participate in the debate organized by the Commission on Elections (Comelec), her spokesperson disclosed Thursday night.
Liloan Mayor Christina Frasco, who also serves as Duterte-Carpio’s spokesperson, said that the vice presidential candidate has not received any formal invitation from the Comelec regarding the debates.
“Vice presidential candidate Sara Duterte and her team have not received any formal invitation from the Comelec to join the debate despite their public announcement of her confirmation to attend the event,” Frasco said in a text message.
“Be that as it may, whether or not there is an invitation, Sara Duterte will not be attending the debate,” she added.
The debate for vice presidential candidates is set on March 20, according to the Comelec.
Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez earlier said all vice presidential candidates, except House Deputy Speaker Lito Atienza, will attend the debates.
