Hacker suspect had 6 other victims

Police said the arrested suspect in the credit card hacking case has at least seven victims, including the doctor who filed a complaint against him.

Chief Insp. Fermin Armendarez of CIDG-7   said the names of the other victims with their  credit card numbers were written in a pocketbook seized from Jerwin Gurrea Minglanilla  during his arrest last Wednesday in barangay Punta Princesa, Cebu City.

Armendarez advised the other victims to show up in their office and file a complaint against the suspect.

Minglanilla, 25, was charged with  violation of Republic Act  8484  , a special law regulating the issuance and use  of access devices, and estafa under RA 315.

In a police interrogation, the young man, who was arrested in an entrapment operation,  named three  persons as his  cohorts in the scam.

Police said they are  checking whether Minglanilla acted alone or was part of a syndicated group of credit card hackers.

He was  arrested after  Dr. Wilson Carvajal dela Calzada complained last Feb. 29 at the CIDG-7.

Dela Calzada said that unknown to him, his Citibank  Gold Visa credit card was used to buy Air Philippines  plane tickets online.

Minglanilla  told police he extracts credit card numbers by surfing in the Internet.

The marked money, photocopy of SSS ID and credit card with Wilson dela Calzada’s name and photocopies of credit card application forms belonging to other persons were recovered from the suspect./correspondent chito aragon
