TARLAC CITY, Tarlac, Philippines — Tarlac Rep. Carlos “Charlie” Cojuangco has died, his wife Czarina Maria “China” Jocson announced on Tuesday. He was 58.

In a Facebook post, Jocson said Cojuangco, a car enthusiast, suffered a brain aneurysm in October last year during a race track accident in Pampanga province and underwent surgery. The actual cause of his death at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, however, was not disclosed.

Cojuangco was the youngest son of tycoon Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco, who died in June 2020. The older Conjuango also served as a governor and a House representative of Tarlac.

The Cojuangcos trace their roots to Paniqui town and settled in Negros Occidental in the early 2000s.

The younger Cojuangco chaired the house committee on flagship programs and projects and was vice chair of the committee on appropriations.

From 1998 to 2007, Cojuangco was the representative of the fourth district of Negros Occidental for three consecutive terms.

In October last year, he filed his certificate of candidacy for reelection for a third term but was substituted by Jaime Diaz Cojuangco, his son with late wife Rio Diaz.

He married Jocson, a former broadcast journalist, on Oct. 10, 2021, at the San Sebastian Cathedral in Tarlac City.
