MANILA, Philippines — The Tahanan ng Panginoon (TNP), a Catholic youth group, endorses Vice President Leni Robredo for president in the May 9 elections.
“After our earnest prayer, reflection, and scrutiny, we the members of the Board of Trustees of [TNP] have decided to declare our support for VP Leni Robredo as president of our republic,” said a group statement in Filipino, which was signed by the TNP president Ricardo Lazatin.
“We strongly believe that Leni Robredo is the worthy candidate. This is because of her proven ability, honesty, achievements for the people, especially for the poor, humanity, and above all, godliness” the statement added.
The group continued to explain that it had chosen to endorse Robredo as she has proven that she prioritizes the welfare of Filipinos.
“She is always looking for ways to raise the livelihood of the people. She is always first to act during a disaster. She listens to ordinary people. She knows how to interact so she gets help in performing meaningful tasks,” the group said.
“Her vision is clear and she does not agree with the oppression of the people and the Philippines,” it added.
TNP also took a stand against the spread of historical revisionism and misinformation.
“We also oppose lies, fake news, corruption, distortion of our history for the personal motives of other candidates, and wrong actions that are not in accordance with the laws of our faith,” it said.
Despite the group endorsement for Robredo, the TNP reminded its members that every one of them could choose their own candidates.
“We respect different opinions. So we are ready to have a dialogue with our brothers and sisters, especially those with different views. But let us reflect carefully on our situation and the future of our country, especially the youth,” it added.
TNP is the outreach group of Ang Ligaya ng Panginoon, the pioneer community in the Charismatic Renewal in the Philippines.
The last is is the mother organization of the Couples for Christ, the Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals, Familia, Ang Lingkod ng Panginoon, Christ Youth in Action, Cradle of Joy, and Pathways Ministry.
