The country’s chief jailer spent his birthday Saturday spilling some blood.
Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Director Rosendo M. Dial celebrated his 53rd birthday by leading jail officers in a bloodletting.
In a statement, the BJMP said thousands of jail officers in Metro Manila and nearby provinces donated blood to the Philippine Heart Center to mark what it called “another bloody birthday” of the jails chief.
The event dubbed “Dugong Alay, Dugtong Buhay” (Blood offered, life extended) was held at Bernardo Park in Kamuning, Quezon City. It was the third year in a row Dial celebrated his birthday this way.
“I want my birthday as BJMP chief to be meaningful. I want to celebrate it by saving lives. And what can be more meaningful and noble than to have my men join me in the cause,” said Dial in the statement.
Wardens of the BJMP National Capital Region attended the activity, along with other jail personnel. Dial said he hoped to make bloodletting part of the “culture” at the BJMP. DJ Yap
