Cebu City gov’t suspends COVID-19 vaccination for minors after running out of supplies

CEBU CITY––The city government has suspended its inoculation of minors after it ran out of vaccines against COVID-19.
“The allocated doses for this age group have been consumed, so we need to inform the public about the development to avoid miscommunication and inconvenience for parents who want to have their kids inoculated against COVID-19,” said Jeffrey Ibones, Cebu City Health Department officer-in-charge.
He said they had yet to determine when the vaccination would resume because it would depend on when the supplies would arrive.
Ibones said the city had requested additional COVID-19 vaccines for minors from the DOH.
“I hope we will be supplied with the vaccines we need as quickly as possible,” he said.
The city government earlier received 6,000 dozes of Pfizer BioNTech from the Department of Health (DOH) in Central Visayas.
At least 2,500 children, aged 11 and below, have been inoculated from the city since the rollout on Feb. 16 of the vaccines for minors.
As of Sunday, at least 8,000 kids have registered online for the vaccination.
