4 dead in Manila residential area fire

MANILA, Philippines — Four persons were killed in a fire that struck a residential area in Sta. Cruz, Manila on Sunday morning, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reported.

Those killed were identified by the BFP as Dennise Cadag, 15; Rina Mae Hernandez Banate, 21; a certain John Kazim, and Jazmine Uzman, 57.

Meanwhile, two others were hurt with 10 families being left homeless.

According to the BFP, the fire started from a two-story building at 9:45 a.m. The BFP raised the 2nd alarm at  9:48 a.m.

The fire was put out at 10:26 a.m.

Four other houses and establishments were affected by the blaze, the BFP said.

Damage caused by the fire was placed at around P70,000.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, the BFP said.
