Diocese of Naval warns public of scammers
MANILA, Philippines — The Catholic Diocese of Naval on Sunday warned the public of scammers who are soliciting donations using the name of San Jose de Antique Bishop Marvyn Maceda.
“Please be aware that someone is using the name of Bishop Marvyn Maceda, Bishop of San Jose de Antique in soliciting an amount for a chalice to be used in an ordination,” said the diocese in a Facebook post.
“There is no such ordination and this is a scam. Please be careful,” it added.
In 2020, the Catholic Bishops ‘ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) also warned the public against scams using the name of some bishops to solicit money.
It urged everyone to be vigilant and to always double check with the bishop concerned or his chancery whenever a similar request is received.
