MANILA, Philippines — The alleged leader of a robbery group was arrested during an anti-illegal drugs operation in Quezon City, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) confirmed on Friday.
The NCRPO said the Station Drug Enforcement Unit of Quezon City Police District’s Masambong Station was conducting a Simultaneous Anti-Criminality Law Enforcement Operation (SACLEO) on Thursday night when they arrested the supposed leader of the Jonas Galang Robbery Akyat Bahay Group in the buy-bust operation along Del Monte Avenue in Barangay Del Monte, Quezon City.
The suspect, identified as Jonas Galang, 39 — from whom the group was named — was caught with one sachet of suspected shabu, which weighed around one gram and was estimated to be worth P6,800.
NCRPO said agents from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) also took part in the operation.
Aside from the illegal substance, the police also recovered the P500 bill used as a marked money, a loaded .38 caliber revolver and a sling bag.
Galang is expected to be charged withviolation of Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs) under Article II of Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and of provisions within Republic Act No. 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and the gun ban according to the Commission on Election Resolution No. 10728.
NCRPO director Maj. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr. lauded the Quezon City officers for arresting the suspect, which he said is a reflection of their commitment to ensuring that the capital region remains safe.
“The continuing and unwavering effort of our men geared towards the arrest of drug personalities and confiscation of either huge or small amount of illegal drugs is truly admirable. It reflects our untiring commitment as we vow to gain more accomplishments on this venture,” Danao added.
