Aquino wants transport terminals north and south of Metro Manila
President Benigno Aquino has ordered the establishment of an integrated transportation terminal in both the north and south ends of Metro Manila.
Under Executive Order No. 67 signed by the President on Feb. 21, the project shall be structured under any of the schemes allowed under the Build-Operate-and-Transfer Law.
The EO also created an inter-agency committee headed by Transportation Secretary Manuel Roxas II to fasttrack the project and to act as an advisory body in matters related to the planning, implementation and monitoring of the project.
“The project aims to provide for the establishment of two integrated transport terminals that are at par with international standards, with locations in the North and South of Metro Manila, to provide effective interconnections between different transport modes and services thereby ensuring efficient and seamless travel for the commuting public,” the EO read.
“Other integrated transport terminals may be established for the same purpose,” it added.
Roxas’ committee shall be composed of Metro Manila Development Authority Chair Francis Tolentino as vice chair; Public Works Secretary Rogelio Singson, Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo, National Economic Development Authority Director General Cayetano Paderanga Jr., Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board Chair Jaime Jacob and Land Transportation Office chief Virginia Torres.
