MANILA, Philippines — An alleged communist rebel was killed after a clash between the New People’s Army and government forces on Thursday morning in Gingoog City in Misamis Oriental, the military reported on Friday.
Troops under 58th Infantry Dimalulupig Battalion and the government forces figured in a 20-minute firefight which occurred 9:30 a.m. in the hinterlands of So Minlanag, Brgy Lawaan, Gingoog City.
No casualty had been reported on the government forces’ side.
The slain rebel remains unidentified, according to the military.
Military also confiscated M16 rifles, five short and one long magazine for M16 rifle and 123 pieces of 5.56mm ammunition, along with subversive documents and personal items.
The discovered cadaver was transported to a funeral home in Gingoog City, according to the military.
