MANILA, Philippines — Presidential candidate and labor leader Leody De Guzman said Friday that the composition of the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) should be fixed in order to recover the “ill-gotten” wealth of the Marcoses.
‘Yun ang ating uunahin na kunin sa mga Marcos,” De Guzman said during the 2022 Prospects Presidential Interviews hosted by the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines, when asked how he plans to recover the “ill-gotten” wealth of the Marcoses.
(Let us fix the composition of the PCGG… We will welcome all information and the development so far…. I know that some are for implementation already. That’s what we will get first from the Marcoses.)
The PCGG, primarily tasked to recover the alleged ill-gotten wealth accumulated by former president Ferdinand Marcos Sr., his family, relatives, and subordinates, has so far recovered P172.4 billion. It is still trying to recover P125 billion more which is still under litigation.
De Guzman said he is puzzled why the remaining amount has not been recovered yet.
(I don’t know what happened that the previous governments were not able to recover the amount, and why the officials assigned have allowed the delaying tactics to happen.)
(We will look at the process and hasten the pending cases.)
De Guzman said he is confident that a huge amount of the “ill-gotten” wealth of the Marcoses will be recovered if he wins the presidency in the May 9 elections.
(I am confident because many of my supporters like Walden Bello have direct experience and knowledge about the Marcos wealth, that’s why I have confidence that even if we will not recover everything, we will recover a huge amount of it.)
