MANILA, Philippines – Malaybalay City Mayor Florencio Flores Jr. passed away on Thursday afternoon.
Flores died at 4:59 p.m, Thursday, as confirmed by a post from the mayor’s official Facebook page.
Flores first tested positive for COVID-19 on Jan. 27, but was able to recover by Feb. 2.
Less than a week later, however, the mayor posted an update that he has once again tested positive for the virus and this time with complications.
He also said that he will need to get examined by a specialist.
Flores was first elected mayor of Malaybalay in 2001, and served as representative of the second district of Bukidnon from 2010 to 2019. He was reelected mayor in 2019 and was likewise seeking reelection this year.
