Phivolcs: No tsunami threat in PH after strong quake in Fiji

MANILA, Philippines — There is no tsunami threat to the Philippines following a 6.6-magnitude earthquake south of Fiji Islands on Thursday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.

In its advisory, Phivolcs said the quake in Fiji occurred at 4:21 a.m. on Thursday with a depth of 568 kilometers.

“No destructive tsunami threat exists based on available data,” it said.

“This is for information purposes only and there is no tsunami threat to the Philippines from this earthquake,” Phivolcs added.

No action has to be undertaken in relation to the earthquake, the agency further said.
