CEBU CITY — Not even the COVID-19 vaccination drive for children aged 5 to 11 in Talisay City, Cebu escaped the election campaign fever.
Mascots of presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos, vice presidential aspirant Sara Duterte-Carpio, and Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony Gullas were spotted at the vaccination site.
In an interview with reporters, Gullas said he was the one who ordered to have mascots at the vaccination site.
“We just want the kids to be happy. It is like a kids’ theme. We are hoping that children will be at ease, because some of them are scared,” said Gullas.
At the start of the vaccination drive for minors in Talisay City this morning, at least a hundred children were brought by their parents to the Talisay City College, one of the vaccination sites in the city.
The Talisay City government has a total of 2,800 doses of Pfizer for children.
Other cities and towns in Cebu have also started the vaccination drive for 5 to 11 years old except for Cebu City which is set to start their inoculation program on February 16.
At least 26,000 doses were allocated for Cebu province for the vaccination of 5 to 11 years old. Cebu City got 6,000 doses while the cities of Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu got 3,000 Pfizer doses each.
