MANILA, Philippines — Retired Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Guillermo Eleazar on Sunday said the 18-hour work day should have not been “made into an issue” as police officers, soldiers, and frontline workers have experienced having to work long hours.
“Personally, nakita ko yan at naranasan ko yan,” Eleazar said of having to work 18 hours a day.
(Personally, I witnessed that and experienced it myself.)
“Mismong mga pulis at sundalo ay makakapagsabi na pati nga day-off at leave of absence namin ay talagang bigla na lang nakakansela dahil kailangan,” he added.
(Even police officers and soldiers could say that days off and leave of absences are being cancelled because it is needed.)
Eleazar noted that even doctors, nurses and other medical frontliners have experienced long working hours.
“So I think it is insensitive to make an issue out of this dahil napakarami sa ating mga kababayan ang nakakaranas nito dahil sa kailangan para sa kanilang pamilya,” Eleazar added.
(So I think it is insensitive to make an issue of this because so many of our countrymen are experiencing this for their families.)
