Bulacan drive-thru vaccination center to open next week

CITY OF MALOLOS — A Bulacan drive-thru vaccination center will be opened next week after the start of inoculation for kids on Monday (Feb. 14) to further speed up the vaccination program of the provincial government to achieve herd immunity against the spread of COVID-19.

Governor Daniel Fernando said on Friday that the first Bulacan Drive-Thru Vax Center in Bulacan Sports Complex in Barangay (village) Sta. Isabel will serve as an alternative vaccination area to the existing provincial government’s vaccination center in Hiyas Pavilion Center.

Fernando said the inoculation of 5 to 11 years old children, which will start on Monday, will crowd the existing vaccination sites all over the province.

He said Bulacan targets to vaccinate 80 percent (about 3 million) of its more than 3.7 million population and not just 70 percent or the herd immunity.

Dr. Hijordis Marushka Celis, Bulacan COVID-19 Task Force vice chair, said Bulacan vaccination rate is now at 54 percent.

Total inoculated residents in Bulacan, both first and second doses, have reached more than 4 million.

Bulacan’s active COVID-19 cases dropped to only 1,150 as of Saturday, compared to its peak 10,551 on January 17.
