BO-PK, Rama camps preparing slates

FORMER city officials, incumbent barangay officials and even members of the private sector are being considered for the slates of two opposing parties in Cebu City.

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama said he has a long list of names for his council slate, which he would trim to 16—eight for the north district and another eight for the south district.

Rep. Tomas Osmeña of Cebu City’s south district who is running for mayor next year, said the Bando Osmeña-Pundok Kauswagan (BO-PK) slate would be announced shortly before the election.

Among the names being considered by Rama are former councilors Manuel Legaspi, Arsenio Pacana, Sylvan Jakosalem and Edwin Jagmoc.

He’s also eyeing barangay captains Pastor Alcover II in Agsungot, Ramil Ayuman in Apas and Eleudoro Sanchez in Busay.

Rama said he was also considering for his council slate barangay councilors Mary Ann delos Santos of Lahug and Joel Garganera of Tinago.

Garganera landed in the 9th spot in the 2010 election.

Garganera said he was only waiting for former mayor and Kugi Uswag Sugbu (Kusug) head Alvin Garcia to convene their group and discuss next year’s election for him to also decide on his political plans.

Garcia, a former city mayor, said he is calling for a consultation with Kusug members this month.

South district councilors Jose Daluz III is serving his last term.

He supports the candidacy of former congressman Antonio Cuenco and Rama.

Councilor Ronald Cuenco said he may not seek a second term because he plans to join his family living in the United States.

BO-PK also has to identify a replacement for Councilor Margot Osmeña if she decides to run for the south district seat against Cuenco.

“When the dust settles, things will be clearer. To decide in a sandstorm is not prudent,” Councilor Osmeña said. Chief of Reporters Doris C. Bongcac
