CEBU CITY — Cebu’s biggest transport group has expressed support for the presidential bid of Vice President Leni Robredo, believing there will be a “just implementation” of public transport modernization if she wins as president.
In a press conference Thursday, Cebu Integrated Transport Service Cooperative (CITRASCO) president Ryan Benjamin Yu said they would be at the forefront of the campaign at the grassroots level.
Nine other smaller transport groups, whose routes are mostly in Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, and Cebu Cities, supported the stand of CITRASCO. These include the Visayan United Drivers Transport and Allied Services Cooperative, cooperatives from PUV routes in Banawa, Pit-os, Talamban, Single Taxi Group, and drivers groups in Compostela and Carmen towns.
Yu said they supported a different candidate before but shifted to Robredo after seeing the platform of government that would fit into the needs of the transport sector. He, however, did not want to mention the name of the presidential candidate he previously supported.
CITRASCO has at least 1,000 PUV units covering Metro Cebu. Its 5,000 members are composed of jeepney and taxi drivers and operators.
“We will be campaigning to our families and member communities. We will be spreading information. It will be hardcore campaigning. We will volunteer ourselves for this,” said Yu, who was joined by smaller transport and sectoral groups during the press conference.
Yu said there was a consensus among their members before making their choice for president.
