MANILA, Philippines — The country’s active COVID-19 cases further decreased even as the Department of Health (DOH) reported 4,575 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday.
While higher than the additional infections logged in the last two days, current active cases dipped to just 93,307, down from 96,326 on Wednesday due to the 7,504 recoveries tallied on Thursday.
According to DOH, most of Thursday’s new COVID-19 cases were from the 15.1 percent positivity rate out of 36,407 individuals who got tested for coronavirus on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, most of the 3,651 new cases on Wednesday were from the 16.5 percent positivity rate out of 29,970 individuals who got tested on Monday.
Positivity rate is the percentage of people found positive for COVID-19 out of all those tested.
Since the start of the pandemic, the country has already confirmed 3,627,575 cases of the respiratory disease. Of this number, 3,479,485 have already recovered and 54,783 have died.
According to the health department, 94.9 percent of the current active cases are either mild or asymptomatic. A total of 3,316 are without symptoms, 85,244 are mild, 2,991 are moderate, 1,444 are severe, and 312 are critical.
On healthcare utilization, 39 percent of intensive care unit (ICU) beds, 34 percent of isolation beds, and 31 percent of ward beds nationwide for COVID-19 patients are in use. In Metro Manila, 31 percent of ICU beds, 28 percent of isolation beds, and 29 percent of ward beds are being used.
The DOH said all testing laboratories were operational on Tuesday, but five were not able to submit their data on time.
