DBTC 1 on track of retaining Aboitiz crown

THE Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) 1 stayed on track of retaining its title after advancing to today’s semifinal round of the Players 8 category of the 14th Aboitiz Football Cup at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Mandaue City.

DBTC 1 made the semis after finishing second best in bracket A. The defending champions had the same points as bracket leader Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) with both teams winning all their six elimination matches. However, the Magis Eagles fared better with its 36 goals to DBTC 1’s 31.

DBTC 1 will meet bracket B top seed Guiseppe FC while SHS-AdC will face Canduman FC.

Guiseppe FC finished the elimination round with 18 points, winning all six elimination matches while Canduman trails Guiseppe with 15 points after dropping one of its six elimination matches to Guiseppe, 2-4 last Jan. 7.

In the Players 10, defending champions SHS-AdC marched to the quarterfinal round against Holy Infant School (HIS).

Other quarterfinal matches pit DBTC 4 vs. San Roque Football Club (SRFC) A, Cebu International School (CIS) vs. Bright Academy and DBTC 5 vs. Canduman Dedon.

Other categories will continue with their elimination rounds.

In the boys 12, St. Augustine International School (SAIS) FC faces Centre for International Education (CIE) while Colegio de la Inmaculada Concepcion-Mandaue plays Canduman.

In the boys 14, the Magis Eagles go up against DBTC A while Abellana National School (ANS) Pomeroy meets DBTC B.

Other matches pit CIC-M vs. SHS-AdC in the girls 17, Blessed John vs. Mandaue Technical Institute (MTI) in the men’s U19 and University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) vs. University of Cebu (UC) in the men’s U23. /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
