“If you ask me: Doc Willie, why are you running? Why seek a post? Well, I need a post so I can help you more. I can’t just keep on doing vlogs?” Ong said in Filipino on Tuesday during the proclamation rally of the Aksyon Demokratiko at the Kartilya ng Katipunan in Manila.

He lamented the current situation where buying face shields get a higher priority than building hospitals.

“Hospitals are cheap. Just three billion. Cheaper than face shields. What’s happening? We have borrowed so much and yet we have not built even one hospital,” he said in Filipino. “That’s why Doc Willie Ong is running. It’s getting very annoying.”

Ong, who is popular for his free online medical advice, has 6.95 million subscribers on Youtube as of this posting.

If elected, Ong said their administration would build 17 regional hospitals and three specialty hospitals nationwide.

He also said that they would make sure that drugs for hypertension, diabetes, kidney diseases would be distributed for free.

“They’re not expensive,” he said.
