MANILA, Philippines — No other Domagoso in his immediate family will enter politics while he remains in government office, according to Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso.

In a radio interview last week, the Aksyon Demokratiko standard-bearer said he had banned his family members from any public office for as long as he was still in the government.

“Modesty aside, you will notice, no one in my family has a government position. You don’t even know my wife,” Domagoso said, referring to businesswoman Diana Lynn Ditan, with whom he has four sons and a daughter.

“I didn’t allow them to join the government because I was the one elected,” the 47-year-old mayor said.

Domagoso said he hoped to implement an antipolitical dynasty law if he were to be elected president in the May elections.

“You know, I believe in democracy, democracy is okay. The bad dynasty is when it seems like a clan is just eating from the same plate or they just pass it on to each other,” he said in Filipino.

“I believe it’s better to avoid dynasties. I hope to implement an anti-dynasty law, which has not been implemented for a long time. Hopefully, that can be implemented in the next generation, after this administration,” Domagoso said.

He said he wasn’t “comfortable” with the existence of political dynasties
