You know summer is really here when two men land in jail for allegedly stealing some P300,000 worth of watermelons.
“It’s just for my own consumption,” Joel Miranda, 25, of Bulacan, told the Inquirer as he admitted stealing the merchandise of his employer, a fruit vendor on Kagandahan Street in Tondo, Manila.
Miranda was arrested on Thursday morning with his alleged cohort, Joel Gabrino, 23, at Asuncion Market.
The complainant, Reynaldo Alano, 55, said he lost some P300,000 worth of watermelons and P880 in cash to the two men over the last few months when they were working for him.
Alano said he finally caught them in the act of stealing at least 11 watermelons that morning.
The two men were charged with qualified theft. Jeannette I. Andrade
