MANILA, Philippines — COVID-19 cases in the Philippines breached the 3.6 million mark on Saturday, the Department of Health (DOH) reported.
This, after the agency reported 7,689 new cases, bringing the caseload to 3,601,471.
Of the total caseload, 3.8 percent or 136,436 are tagged as “active cases” with most having only mild or no symptoms at 96.4 percent.
Of the new reported cases, 88 percent or 6,777 were recorded in the recent 14 days (January 23 – February 5).
The top regions with new COVID-19 cases in the recent two weeks are Central Visayas (1,022 or 15 percent of all cases), Davao Region (830 or 12 percent) and Metro Manila (748 or 11 percent).
Meanwhile, the total number of recoveries is now pegged at 3,410,821 or 94.7 percent with 22,539 new recoveries.
The DOH reported only one new COVID-19 death on Saturday, bringing the total death count to 54,214, which is 1.51 percent of all cases. The DOH said the new death was recorded in May 2021 after late encoding of death information to the DOH system.
There were 205 duplicates removed from the total case count. Including 116 recoveries and one death. One case that was also previously tagged as a recovery was reclassified as a death after final validation.
The current positivity rate is 23.3 percent out of 40,075 cases.
Meanwhile, the global COVID-19 caseload is now at 390.2 million, including 5.7 million deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University Case Tracker.
