MANILA, Philippines — The trough of a low pressure area (LPA) outside of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) will bring cloudy skies with rain showers in most parts of the country on Saturday, the state weather bureau reported on Friday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the LPA is detected 485 kilometers south of General Santos City.

The LPA will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to Bicol Region, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan (Mimaropa), and the entire Visayas and Mindanao.

Pagasa weather specialist Raymond Ordinario said the LPA has a low chance of developing into a typhoon.

On the other hand, the northeast monsoon, locally known as amihan, is prevailing in the entire Luzon.

Amihan will cause cloudy skies and light rains in Batanes and Cagayan, while Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will experience fair weather with partly cloudy to cloudy skies only with isolated light rains.

Meanwhile, Pagasa raised the gale warning in Batanes and Babuyan Islands, which will experience rough to very rough sea conditions with 2.8 to 4.5 meters of waves due to the surge of the northeast monsoon.
