TACLOBAN CITY — One of the closest allies of President Duterte in Eastern Visayas welcomed the declaration of the presidential aspirant and Vice President Leni Robredo that she would continue and enhance the implementation of Malasakit Centers.
Eastern Samar Gov. Ben Evardone said he welcomed the statement of Robredo.
“The decision of VP Leni to continue this program will certainly be a big help to our poor constituents for their medical needs. The reform and enhancement of the Malasakit program by including those in the charity wards of private hospitals and outpatients will further expand its coverage of beneficiaries,” he said.
Evardone, a staunch supporter of Duterte, said the Malasakit Center is one of several legacies of Duterte.
In Eastern Visayas, almost all of its six provincial hospitals, including its regional Eastern Visayas Medical Center, have Malasakit Centers that have benefited thousands of indigents.
In an interview over DZRH, Robredo said that if she won the presidential race, she would continue to implement the Malasakit Center describing the program as “good.”
