Aquino: Corona testimony would help quest for truth

CALAPAN CITY, Philippines—Putting Chief Justice Renato Corona on the witness stand would help the administration’s quest for the truth in the magistrate’s impeachment trial, President Benigno Aquino said on Friday.

Nonetheless, the President said, he could not force anybody to testify if he didn’t want to.

“His non-appearance would be a big help to them; not to us,” Aquino told reporters in an interview.

“It’s already the Lenten season. My mother told me that if I have nothing good to say, don’t say anything at all,” he replied when asked if he thought Corona’s non-appearance in court was intended to keep him from being cross-examined by prosecutors.
