ILIGAN CITY—Family feud or “rido” is eyed as the possible motive of the killing Monday of the chief of the Lanao del Norte police’s highway patrol group (HPG).
Maj. Omar Tago was attending the wake for a relative in Barangay Pagalungan, Sultan Dumalondong town, Lanao del Sur, when shot, according to Police Lt. Col. Cristio Lagyop Jr., chief of the public information office of the police in the Bangsamoro region.
Tago was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead while a companion, identified as Kanor Rascal, died on the spot. Another companion, identified as Adam Dirindigun, was wounded and is now recuperating in another hospital.
A source from the Army told the Inquirer that one of the suspects served Tago food before shooting him.
Lagyop said four suspects in the shooting fled on board two motorcycles.
The Lanao del Sur police office report said the four suspects were from Lumbatan town.
Before heading the HPG in Lanao del Norte, Tago, who was on his 20th year in the service, used to be police chief of his hometown Sultan Naga Dimaporo, Lanao del Norte, and in the towns of Bacolod and Baloi.
