The Visayan Electric Company has entered into an agreement with the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) for the upgrading of electrical system of the police headquarters.
The memorandum of agreement was signed last Feb. 10 by Veco executive vice president and chief operating officer Jaime Jose Aboitiz and CCPO Director Melvin Buenafe.
Buenafe said the project, scheduled to be completed in two months, aims to prevent fire incidents.
“The policemen who are at the forefront of maintaining peace and order in the city need a healthy and safe atmosphere,” Buenafe said.
“This is a momentous event because for decades the CCPO has not been renovated,” Buenafe said. “We thank Veco for improving our facility.”
During the signing, Aboitiz thanked the policemen for helping apprehend electricity thieves.
“We cannot do it without your support. The policemen escort our personnel in apprehending electricity thieves,” Aboitiz said.
Aboitiz also told the policemen, “We hope Veco can fulfill your needs, and look forward to helping you in the future.”
He said most fires were caused by wire theft, wiretapping, use of substandard electrical wirings and the absence of circuit breakers in houses.
Aboitiz discouraged the public from stealing electricity, saying that if Veco reduces its systems loss, power rates will also go down, benefiting its consumers.
Aside from the police facilities, the power utility, through its corporate social responsibility, has also been rewiring the electrical system of public schools since 2010.
