MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) reported another 9,493 COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, the first time in a month that new infections were less than 10,000.
Tuesday’s new cases were the lowest since January 5, when additional cases suddenly jumped to 10,775. The numbers have improved from cases in January when the new infections went as high as 39,000.
The DOH said there are now 176,053 active cases of COVID-19. Meanwhile, 24,210 additional recoveries placed the total number of survivors to 3,339,558, and 51 more deaths increased the fatalities to 54,054.
Overall, the health agency has so far confirmed 3,569,665 COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic.
Of the active cases, 97.2 percent are either mild or asymptomatic. The DOH said 6,133 are asymptomatic, 164,995 are mild, 3,070 are moderate, 1,529 are severe, and 326 are critical.
The DOH reported a positivity rate of 28.8 percent out of 31,053 individuals who got tested for coronavirus on Sunday.
Nationwide, 46 percent of intensive care unit (ICU) beds, 45 percent of isolation beds, 47 percent of ward beds, and 25 percent of ventilators for COVID-19 patients are currently in use.
In Metro Manila, 40 percent of ICU beds, 35 percent of isolation beds, 40 percent of ward beds, and 24 percent of ventilators are being used.
According to the DOH, all testing laboratories were operational on Sunday. However, 10 laboratories, which contributed 5.5 percent of tested samples and 4.4 percent of positive individuals in the last two weeks, were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.
