UC Banilad hosts faculty development program for Accountancy

THE University of Cebu hosted the joint CHEd-PICPA Faculty Development Program for Accountancy, which was participated by 45 representatives from different learning institutions in the Visayas and Mindanao.

The joint project between the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) and the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) aimed to improve the quality of instruction in accountancy education.

The program was held at UC Banilad campus from Feb. 25 to Feb. 29.

UC executive vice chancellor lawyer Baldomero Estenzo delivered his welcome remarks, while Ma. Concepcion Lupisan of CHEd presented the rationale and objective of the program and Ester Ledesma of PICPA an overview of the program.

The program came in two parts: Teacher Education and How to teach the Philippine Financial Reportings (PFRs), Philippine Accounting Standards and Code of Ethics.

Teacher education topics included foundation of teaching; the learner; planning for instruction; the teacher and the learning process; college level teaching strategy; and evaluating the performance of the learner (tests and measurements), with resource speakers Dean Ester Ledesma, Dr. Ronaldo Motilla, PhD, Dean Ma. Concepcion Lupisan and lawyer Samuel Villacampa.

How to teach the PFRs, the PSAa and Code of Ethics topics included conceptual framework, PAS 1 and related PFRSs – A concept-based teaching strategy and a “webbing ppproach;” PAS 17, PAS 19 and related IFRICC; financial instruments and related standards; PFRS 3, PAS 28, PAS 27, PAS 21 (webbing approach); and auditing and related standards, Code of Professional Ethics, with resource speakers Dean Ledesma, Dean Lupisan, Wilson Tan, Prof. Roel Hermosilla and Dean Elenita Cabrera.
