After noting a “significant” decline in the crime rate in Mandaue City over the past two years, Mayor Jonas Cortes is considering extending the service of the city police chief.
Senior Supt. Noel Gillamac who ended a two-year posting in the city is up for reassignment.
City Administrator James Abadia said the mayor, who commended the accomplishments of the police under Gillamac, is thinking of retaining him even as the mayor’s office is accepting applications for the position.
The City Council passed a resolution yesterday commending Gillamac’s performance.
The MCPO reported that 3,116 crimes were recorded in 2009 that went down by 11 percent or 2,771 cases the year after and was further reduced in 2011 to 1,632 cases or a 41.1 percent drop from 2009.
Index crimes also saw a decline by half from 2,393 in 2009 to 1,041 cases.
“All significant decreases were attributed to effective crime solution efficiency,” said Councilor Diosdado Suico who sponsored the resolution.
