CITY OF CALAPAN––A man was shot and killed Sunday during a drinking spree in Pola town in Oriental Mindoro province, the Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) police reported Monday.
A report said Cesar Logatic, 41, was having a drinking spree at 7:25 p.m. with Jomedes Pais of Barangay Batuhan, at the side of Logatic’s house in Barangay Panikihan, when Marino Panganiban, 62, stopped opposite them, got off his motorcycle then shot Pais twice.
After shooting Pais, Panganiba threatened Logatic not to testify, saying “I will also kill you,” then fled in an unknown direction.
Pais suffered bullet wounds in the head and the right side of his chest. He was taken to the Municipal Health Office in Pola and later transferred to Grace Mission Hospital in Socorro town but died on the way.
Police found two empty shells from a suspected caliber .45 gun in the place, according to Captain Nebuchadnezzar Matrio, chief of Pola police.
Police arrested Panganiban after a short pursuit operation. The firearm used in the shooting was found at the house of Panganiban in Barangay Bayanan, along with magazines and 12 bullets.
Major Loreto Maulion Jr., Mimaropa police public information office chief, said “love triangle” could be a reason for Panganiban’s action.
