MANILA, Philippines — Senator Joel Villanueva has tested positive for COVID-19.

Villanueva disclosed this Friday after receiving the results of his RT-PCR test on Thursday night. The senator said he is currently in isolation.

“Nag-positive po tayo sa COVID sa resulta ng RT-PCR test nitong Huwebes ng gabi, pagkatapos kong makaramdam ng lagnat at pananakit ng ulo noong Miyerkules,” Villanueva said in a Viber message.

(I tested positive for COVID-19 based on the results of my RT-PCR test on Thursday night. I got tested after experiencing fever and headache last Wednesday.)

“Inabisuhan ko na po ang lahat ng aking nakasalamuha noong mga nagdaang araw tungkol sa aking kalagayan, at kasalukuyan po tayong naka-isolate,” the senator added.

(I informed those who I had interacted with over the past few days about my condition and I am currently in isolation.)

Villanueva said he is fully vaccinated and has received his booster shot.

“Dahil bakunado at boosted po tayo, at sa tulong ng panalangin sa Diyos, malaki po ang tiwala ko na malalampasan natin itong balakid na magpatuloy ang trabaho natin sa Senado,” Villanueva said.

(Since we are fully vaccinated and boosted, and with the help of prayers, I trust that I will be able to pass this hurdle and continue my work in the Senate.)

The Philippines on Thursday recorded 18,191 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the total number of cases in the country to 3,493,447.
