TUGUEGARAO CITY—Three people died when their “kolong-kolong” or improvised tricycle crashed into a trailer truck along the national road in Claveria town, Cagayan province Tuesday (Jan. 25) night, police said.
The fatalities were identified as Fernando Carniyan, 46, the kolong-kolong driver; his 6-year-old daughter, Angela; and his 5-year-old stepson, Angel Juan.
Carniyan’s live-in partner, Roselyn Juan, 41, was in critical condition.
Maj. Krismar Angelo Casilana, Claveria police chief, said the victims were on their way home after dinner with their relatives when the accident took place.
Carniyan’s vehicle was cruising the road in Barangay Pata when it was rammed by the trailer truck driven by Julius Amanonce, 22, of Ballesteros town, also in Cagayan.
The truck driver tried to overtake the tricycle, investigators said.
Amanonce was on his way to La Union to haul cement bags when he hit the tricycle.
Due to the strong impact, the victims were thrown from their vehicle, killing Carniyan and Angela instantly. Angel was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
He will be charged with multiple homicides due to reckless imprudence.
