MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga–Police and religious leaders led the peace covenant signing Tuesday, Jan. 25, among candidates vying for positions in Gerona town in Tarlac province for “safe, accurate, free, and fair elections.”
Municipal police officer-in-charge Lt. Col. Jovy Arceo, Rev. Fr. Joselito Grani, Pastor Julius Bermudez, Army Capt. Rigor Rivera and municipal elections officer Ruth Ellaine Dimarucut facilitated the signing of the peace covenant inside the Saint Catherine of Alexandria Parish church in the said town.
Candidates for mayor, vice-mayor, and municipal councilors signed the covenant.
On Monday, Tarlac police headed by Col. Erwin Sanque led the “unity walk” and signing of a peace covenant at the provincial capitol grounds in Tarlac City.
Sanque said the activity was a concerted effort of the Provincial Joint Security Control Center, CARITAS-Tarlac, Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Commission on Elections, Department of the Interior and Local Government, the religious, and non-government organizations “to promote peaceful and honest 2022 national and local elections.”
Tarlac Catholic Bishop Enrique Macaraeg, other religious leaders, and candidates for provincial and congressional positions attended the event.
