PH weather forecast: LPA affects Visayas, Mindanao; amihan to chill Luzon

MANILA, Philippines — The low-pressure area (LPA) over the southern provinces of the country is expected to continue bringing rains as it moves west, the state weather bureau said on Tuesday afternoon.
Updates from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) showed that the LPA was seen 65 kilometers north of El Salvador City in Misamis Oriental.
While it is still not expected to develop into a tropical cyclone, the LPA is seen to bring cloud clusters along with it as it moves west. On Wednesday, Pagasa said that the weather disturbance may move over Western Mindanao towards the Sulu Sea, before moving to southern Palawan and the West Philippine Sea on Thursday.
“Sa mga susunod na oras asahan pa rin ang minsang malalakas na pag-ulan dito sa malaking bahagi ng ating bansa. Sa Luzon, pinaka-apektado ng low pressure area ang Bicol Region and Mimaropa, lalo na dito sa Sorsogon, Masbate, and Romblon. Sa buong ka-Bisayaan, asahan pa rin po ang minsang malalakas na pag-ulan,” weather specialist Benison Estareja said.

“Sa Mindanao pinaka-apektado ang Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro Region, Northern Mindanao, at Caraga Region lalo na dito sa may Surigao del Norte and Dinagat. Kaya’t paalala sa ating mga kababayan, mag-ingat po sa posibleng mga pagbaha, sa pag-apaw ng mga ilog, at sa posibleng landslides sa mga bulubundukin na lugar,” he added.

On the other hand, several areas in Luzon can expect colder nights and early mornings again due to the northeast monsoon or amihan, which will see a surge in the coming days according to Pagasa.
For Wednesday, temperatures in Luzon are seen to be below with the northeast monsoon surge, with Tuguegarao and Laoag expecting something between 22 to 31 degrees Celsius, and Baguio City with 14 to 23 degrees.
Isolated rains and thunderstorms are also expected over the southern portions of Luzon, which would result in cold weather as Metro Manila may have temperatures of 23 to 30 degrees Celsius, Tagaytay with 20 to 29 degrees, Legazpi with 24 to 29 degrees, and Puerto Princesa with 23 to 31 degrees.
For Visayas and Mindanao, cloudy skies and rains would still prevail as a result of the LPA. Tacloban may feel temperatures of 24 to 28 degrees Celsius, Iloilo and Cebu with 25 to 29 degrees, while Zamboanga, Cagayan de Oro, and Davao would have 24 to 31 degrees.
With the amihan surge, a gale warning was placed over the northern waters of the country, particularly around Batanes, the Babuyan Islands, and the northern coastlines of Ilocos Norte and Cagayan. Fisherfolk and small boat operators have been warned against sailing in these areas as waves may reach heights of 2.8 meters to 4.5 meters.
