Eastern Visayas police honor SAF44 heroism

ORMOC CITY––The Police Regional Office in Eastern Visayas commemorated on Tuesday the heroism of the 44 members of the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (PNP-SAF), who died in an encounter with the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in 2015.

Policemen offered wreaths of flowers at the Bantayog ng Bayani, Camp Kangleon, Palo, Leyte.

Brigadier General Rommel Bernardo Cabagnot, regional police director, directed all line units to make known the gallantry of the elite force of the PNP.

“May their deaths be an inspiration to all the police in the country as we will always honor the sacrifices and memories of our fallen heroes,” he said.

“May we all be motivated in our daily lives as police officers and to the families, may you find peace and healing,” he added.

Forty-four members of the PNP-SAF died in a police operation at Tukanalipao, Mamasapano, Maguindanao against the BIFF and MILF on Jan. 25, 2015.
