MANILA, Philippines — Debunking naysayers’ claims that he wouldn’t run after the ill-gotten wealth of the Marcos family if elected president, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso vowed to pursue corrupt officials, “both past and present,” and continue the mandate of the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG).
The Aksyon Demokratiko standard-bearer on Monday said his position not to abolish the PCGG “proves critics wrong” that he had no intention of running after the billions of pesos pilfered from the nation’s coffers during the Marcos dictatorship.
Domagoso said his critics had wrongly interpreted his previous statements that he wanted the country to move on from the conflict between the Marcoses and the Aquinos since the return of democracy in 1986 as forgiving those who had stolen from the country.
During the GMA7 interview aired on Saturday, the 47-year-old mayor said “all who erred would be made accountable.” INQ
