Ex-Foreign Secretary Roberto Romulo; 83
MANILA, Philippines — Former Foreign Secretary Roberto “Bobby” Romulo died on Sunday. He was 83.
Romulo, son of the late statesman, diplomat and National Artist for Literature Carlos P. Romulo, joined government service in June 1989 as ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Commission of the European Communities.
He was appointed secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs in 1992 during the term of President Fidel V. Ramos.
Born in Manila on Dec. 9, 1938, to Carlos P. Romulo and Virginia Llamas-Romulo, Romulo completed his primary to college education in the United States. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Georgetown University, he took up law at the Ateneo de Manila College of Law, earning a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1964.
Romulo began his professional career with IBM Corp. in New York City in 1965.
