Firefighter with hypertension dies while responding to fire incident in Albay

A policeman and his half-brother were arrested Friday (Jan. 21) morning after allegedly killing a village councilman and an Indian national in Oas town, Albay province.

LIGAO CITY — A firefighter died due to hypertension while responding to a fire incident in Polangui town in Albay province Monday afternoon, police report said.

Senior Fire Officer 1 Ramon Quiapon Jr., team leader of Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Polangui, died while performing his duty at a fire incident at J.P Liao Trading in Barangay (village) Ubaliw at around 1:35 p.m.

Quiapon was taken to the municipal health office but died along the way, the police report said.

Meanwhile, the blaze at the store was declared fire out at 2:45 p.m. BFP is still investigating the cause of the fire.

Estimated cost of damage is P2 million.

Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) President Adrian Salceda will submit a resolution recognizing the heroism of Quiapon and expressing the gratitude of the people of Polangui for his bravery in responding to the fire incident in their community.

Polangui councilors will contribute P5,000 from their salaries, and the 44 villages of Polangui will also give P1,000 each as assistance to the bereaved family.
