Comelec starts printing ballots for May 9 polls

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) second division will handle two other petitions to disqualify presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. in the upcoming elections.

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has started printing on Sunday the 67.2 million automated elections ballots to be used in the May 9 elections, after taking two days to print some 225,000 manual ballots. The National Printing Office (NPO) began printing at 11:27 a.m. on Sunday the 2,588,193 ballots to be used in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao, according to James Jimenez, spokesperson for the Comelec. He confirmed that the manual ballots have all been printed. Although printing has started, Comelec has not released on its website the ballot face template with the final list of candidates. The printing of the manual ballots, which do not have preprinted names of candidates unlike the automated elections ballots, started at around 7 p.m. on Jan. 20.
