Low pressure area brings cloudy skies, scattered rain

MANILA, Philippines — The low pressure area (LPA) off Mindanao entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) early on Sunday, according to the state weather bureau.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the LPA entered PAR at 2 a.m.

Pagasa weather specialist Samuel Duran said the LPA was spotted 965 kilometers east of Mindanao as of 3 a.m. on Sunday.

Duran said the trough, or extension, of the LPA would bring cloudy skies, including scattered rain showers, thunderstorms and lightning strikes in Eastern Visayas, Caraga and Davao regions.

But he said the LPA had a slim chance of intensifying into a tropical cyclone.

Due to the “amihan,” or the northeast monsoon, Duran said Metro Manila, Ilocos region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon and Calabarzon would experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.

The rest of Mindanao and the Visayas would also experience scattered rain showers, lightning and thunderstorms.

Temperature in Metro Manila in the next three days will range from 22 to 31 degrees Celsius while Baguio City will have a temperature between 13 to 23 C. INQ
