PH’s active COVID-19 cases rise to 291,618 with 32,744 new infections

MANILA, Philippines — The country’s active COVID-19 rose to 291,618 on Friday as the Department of Health (DOH) reported 32,744 new infections.

Meanwhile, the DOH also recorded 16,385 more recoveries and 156 deaths, bringing the total recoveries to 3,012,156 and total fatalities to 53,309.

With the additional coronavirus cases, the country now has 3,357,083 total confirmed COVID-19 cases.

Ninety-eight percent of the active cases are mild or asymptomatic. According to DOH, 9,015 cases are asymptomatic, 277,833 are mild, 2,979 are moderate, 1,487 are severe, and 304 are critical.

The DOH also reported a positivity rate of 44 percent from 75,335 individuals who underwent RT-PCR testing on Wednesday.

Nationwide, 51 percent of intensive care unit (ICU) beds, 52 percent of isolation beds, and 54 percent of ward beds for COVID-19 patients are currently in use. In Metro Manila, 49 percent of ICU beds, 48 percent of isolation beds, and 56 percent of ward beds are currently occupied.

The DOH said all testing laboratories were operational on Wednesday, but three laboratories were not able to submit their data.
