DAGUPAN CITY–All public schools in 22 towns under Pangasinan Schools Division II would implement a five-day academic health break by suspending classes and other teaching related activities, an official of the Department of Education (DepEd) said Wednesday, Jan. 19.

Danilo Sison, schools division superintendent, issued the memorandum declaring the academic break from Jan. 24 to 28.

Sison said the move was in relation to a DepEd memorandum asking its local offices to “exercise discretion” in suspending classes and other teaching-related activities.

But Sison said class suspension should be compensated by the same number of days later in the school year.

“All adjustments will have to be made in the school calendar to maintain the authorized total number of school days for school year 2021-2022,” Sison’s memorandum said.

The division office covers 464 elementary, 121 secondary, and 118 senior high schools in eastern Pangasinan.

The division office made the decision based on the active COVID-19 cases that include teachers, personnel, and students in these areas.
