Robredo bucks deferment of village, SK polls
MANILA, Philippines — Presidential aspirant and Vice President Leni Robredo is opposed to another postponement of the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections, amid a pending House bill to defer it anew because of the pandemic.
“Elections are not just mere ceremonies where you install people in elective posts, but a democratic process where you listen to the voice of the public,” she stressed.
To defer the elections again, a law must be passed first, she added. Last year, Davao Oriental Rep. Joel Mayo Almario filed a bill to defer the barangay and SK elections to May 2024 to ensure “continuity in delivery” of government services during the pandemic.
