MANILA, Philippines — Taguig City Mayor Lino Cayetano on Monday announced that he had tested positive for COVID-19 and had gone into isolation.

Cayetano announced this during an online meeting with city department heads, where he revealed that he has tested positive in an antigen test and was exhibiting mild symptoms.

The mayor assured them, however, that he would continue to work even while in isolation.

Meanwhile, Cayetano also shared his plans for Taguig and its future, which focuses on its full transition into a highly sustainable city.

“Our focus during this period will be taking care of our citizens by capacitating them with a deeper understanding of the virus and how to manage cases including access to all our services like testing, telemedicine, delivery of medicine and vaccination,” Cayetano said.

This, he said, would include proper resource management and food security, climate change and disaster mitigation, economic development and affordable housing, accessible healthcare and advanced medical technology, citizen-centered approach to governance and digitization of government services, bridging education and employment through technology and education, and building an accessible and convenient mass transportation system.

According to the DILG during a taped briefing on Monday with President Rodrigo Duterte, there are currently 21 mayors and four total governors currently infected with COVID-19.
