BARMM education exec slain in Tacurong gun attack
TACURONG CITY, Sultan Kudarat, Philippines – An education official of Maguindanao was shot dead on Monday by unidentified gunmen while driving home in Barangay San Pablo here with his wife, according to Lt. Col. Joan Maganto, Tacurong City police director.
Javier Kumandi Sr., schools district supervisor of Pandag, Maguindanao, was driving his black Toyota Innova on his way home with his wife when unidentified gunmen on motorbikes opened fire at them at 7 p.m.
Kumandi worked the Bangsamoro Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE), the region’s education department.
Responding police officers rushed his wife to a hospital in the city where she was getting medical attention.
The shooting of Kumandi came nine days since the election gun ban took effect in the city and five days after a radio broadcaster was also killed here.
