CEBU CITY—Eight days after he failed to attend his hearing via Zoom with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) because of a sore throat and his supposed exposure to two staff members who tested positive for COVID-19, presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. showed up at the christening of Liloan Mayor Christina Garcia-Frasco’s son on Jan. 15.
In a Facebook post, Christina showed photos of Marcos along with the latter’s running mate, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, at the Chapel of San Pedro Calungsod in Cebu City.
Marcos and Mayor Duterte were godparents to Christina’s youngest son, Vincent Xavier, along with Eduardo Aboitiz, Natalia Zobel and Ray Go Manigsaca.
Christina, the daughter of Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, is married to Cebu Rep. Vincent “Duke” Frasco, with whom she has four children.
“Due to recent circumstances, we opted to postpone the reception to a later date. Instead, we had a small al fresco dinner with family and godparents after the baptism,” the mayor said.

Christina, who serves as the spokesperson of Mayor Duterte, declined to issue a statement on Marcos’ presence during the baptism when the Inquirer tried to get her reaction on Monday.
On Jan. 7, Marcos failed to show up via Zoom during the Comelec’s preliminary conference of disqualification cases filed against him. According to Marcos, he had a “painfully congested throat” and needed to rest.
On Monday, the Comelec Second Division junked the petition to cancel Marcos’ certificate of candidacy. The Comelec First Division, which is handling a separate set of cases against Marcos, is expected to issue a ruling soon.
